Exhibition Entry Information

General Information
The exhibition will be held at Babylon Gallery, Waterside, Ely, CB7 4AU from 28thAugust 2019 to 22ndSeptember 2019.

Submissions of work are invited from visual artists working in water-based media. Artists must be over the age of 18, and live in, or be associated with, the counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Bedfordshire. All work must be original - no prints will be accepted.

All submitted paintings must be in watercolour or a water-soluble medium for at least 80% of the painting.  Works must be on an acid-free paper support. Water-based media include acrylic but this must not be used in impasto form. Water-soluble oils may not be used.

Work must have been painted in the last 3 years and not been exhibited before within 20 miles of the venue. Work that has previously been submitted for the SEAW Selected Exhibition will not be eligible. Work must not exceed 80cm in height or width. Submissions must be the original work of the artist named on the submission form. Work must be for sale and copyright vested in the named artist.

If non-members have had work selected for 3 years, and have been invited to become a member of the SEAW, the non-member must thereafter become a member of the society in order to submit paintings to the SEAW Selected exhibition.

Non-members wishing to apply for membership should submit 4 paintings. If at least 2 paintings are selected, the artist will be asked for a further digital portfolio for consideration by the committee for membership eligibility. The committee may, at their discretion, invite artists who have submitted fewer paintings and had some selected for the exhibition, to submit a portfolio of work to the committee for membership consideration.  Details of requirements will be given at the time.

Work must be securely framed and glazed with D-rings and cord securely attached to the frame. Works in metal frames or clip frames will not be accepted. Only cream, off-white or white mounts will be allowed although a 5mm coloured edge to separate painting from mount will be acceptable. In the case of float mounting only cream, off-white or white backing mounts must be used. All frames must be sealed with framing tape.

All submitted works must bear a securely attached adhesive label on the reverse side of the work, stating name of artist, title, medium and price.

Image Uploads
Image files should be JPG or PNG and no more than 5MB large. Upload time will depend on your internet connection speed so please be patient. If you are having problems uploading your images please use image editing software to resize your image to approximately 1600 pixels wide and then save as a new file. Image file names should not be too long and should not contain any invalid characters such as ' " & % * ( ) < > / \ ~ # + =

Work selected for exhibition will be expected to be for sale. The minimum sale price for selected works is £150. The maximum sale price for selected works is £600. Commission of 35% is charged by the Society. It will be assumed that the sale price includes the cost of any frame and our commission. Please allow for these points when pricing your work. If your work is sold at the exhibition you have a responsibility to account for UK taxes with H.M. Revenue & Customs where applicable.

All communication will be by email. Applicants will be able to login after the Selection Notification date to find out if they have been selected for the next stage.

The judges will select the works for the exhibition. The judges will consider all correctly completed submissions. The decision of the judges on all matters is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The judges for 2019 are:
John Crossley VPRWS: Artist
Julia Sorrell RI: Artist
Steve Pill: Editor, Artist and Illustrators Magazine

Artists are responsible for insuring their own work. All works accepted for exhibition will be displayed entirely at the artists' risk.  Organisers and the gallery will not accept liability for loss or damage occurring during the exhibition.

Delivery and Collection
Artists are responsible for the delivery and collection of their work at the Gallery. All packaging materials must be removed after delivery (no gallery storage is available for this) and brought back at collection.  Work not collected at the stated times will be subject to a daily charge of £10 and will be disposed of after one week. We recommend the use of padded foil bags (stifft bags) or equivalent as it makes unpacking and packing paintings at delivery and collection a lot easier.
