General Information
The exhibition will be held at The Handa Gallery, Wells Maltings, Staithe St, Wells-next-the-Sea NR23 1AN from Saturday 8 February - Saturday 29 February, 2020.
Eligibility
Submissions of work are invited from visual artists working in water-based media. Artists must be over the age of 18, and live in, or be associated with, the counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Bedfordshire. All work must be original - no prints will be accepted.
All submitted paintings must be in watercolour or a water-soluble medium for at least 80% of the painting. Works must be on an acid-free paper support. Water-based media include acrylic but this must not be used in impasto form. Water-soluble oils may not be used.
Restrictions
Work must have been painted in the last 3 years and not been exhibited before within 20 miles of the venue. Work must not exceed 80cm in height or width (external frame dimension). Submissions must be the original work of the artist named on the submission form. Work must be for sale and copyright vested in the named artist.
Presentation
Work must be securely framed and glazed with D-rings and cord securely attached to the frame. Works in metal frames or clip frames will not be accepted. Only cream, off-white or white mounts will be allowed although a ¼ inch coloured edge to separate painting from mount will be acceptable. In the case of float mounting only cream, off-white or white backing mounts must be used. All frames must be sealed with framing tape.
All submitted works must bear a securely attached adhesive label on the reverse side of the work, stating name of artist, title, medium and price. In addition a luggage label with the same information must be attached to one of the d-rings with cord long enough to enable the label to be hung over the top of the painting.
Image Uploads
Image files should be JPG or PNG and no more than 5MB large. Upload time will depend on your internet connection speed so please be patient. If you are having problems uploading your images please use image editing software to resize your image to approximately 1600 pixels wide and then save as a new file. Image file names should not be too long and should not contain any invalid characters such as ' " & % * ( ) < > / \ ~ # + =
Pricing
Work selected for exhibition will be expected to be for sale. The minimum sale price for selected works is £150 and a maximum price of £650. Commission of 35% is charged by the Society. It will be assumed that the sale price includes the cost of any frame and our commission. Please allow for these points when pricing your work. If your work is sold at the exhibition you have a responsibility to account for UK taxes with H.M. Revenue & Customs where applicable.
Communications
All communication will be by email. Applicants will be able to login after the Selection Notification date to find out if they have been selected for the next stage.
Selection
The committee of the SEAW will select the works for the exhibition. The committee will consider all correctly completed submissions. The decision of the committee on all matters is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Insurance
Artists are responsible for insuring their own work. All works accepted for the exhibition will be displayed entirely at the artists' risk. Organisers and the gallery will not accept liability for loss or damage occurring during the exhibition.
Delivery and Collection
Artists are responsible for the delivery and collection of their work at the Gallery. All artwork must be unpacked and the packaging materials removed by the person delivering the artwork. No gallery storage is available for packaging. It is also the artist's responsibility to package their artwork for removal at the end of the exhibition. Work not collected at the stated times will be subject to a daily charge of £10 and will be disposed of after one week.
Agreement
By submitting to the exhibition you are deemed to accept and agree to the following:
- The decision of the Selectors on all matters Is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- I understand that The Organisers reserve the right to make such changes to the exhibition arrangements and these Terms & Conditions as may be deemed necessary by circumstances.
- I authorise The Organisers to process, store, and utilise the data in my submission and agree that, if selected for exhibition, images of my work can be freely used by The Organisers, The Gallery and associated organisations for promotional and publicity purposes.
- All information provided by me is true and accurate and that the work submitted is wholly of my own creation.
- I have read and understood the full terms and conditions and by submitting this application I accept and agree to observe all the Terms And Conditions therein.
